Vice-Chancellor cuts sod for 3-storey Primary School Block at UCC Basic School Annex

A ground breaking ceremony has been performed for the construction of a three-storey Primary School Block at the Basic School Annex of University of Cape Coast.

The project, which comprises classrooms on the ground floor, first floor and second floor, will also come with a computer laboratory, kitchen, snack shop, and bookshop. Other facilities include washrooms, administration block, media centre, offices, science laboratory, a library and other ancillary facilities.

The Ceremony, performed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, was witnessed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rosemond Boohene and the Registrar, Mr. Jeff Onyame, as well as other high-level university office holders.

For his part, Prof. Boampong expressed the hope that the project, when completed, would go a long way to ensure easy access to education by pupils in the Cape Coast Metropolis. He attributed the admission pressures by parents and guardians on the UCC Basic School to the sterling academic and sports performances by the pupils.

He urged the contractor working on the project to do quality work and also strive to complete it within the scheduled period.

The Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee, Prof. Edward Marfo, on his part, called for the commitment of all stakeholders to ensure the execution of the project. He said the Committee was determined to ensure that construction of the ground floor was completed by October, 2023 to admit fresh students for the new academic year.

"Our greatest hope and expectation is to get the support from all who matter so far as basic education is concerned" he continued.
