Prof. Rosemond Boohene and Dr. Audrey Lenhart

Pro Vice-Chancellor holds talks with Official of CDC-USA

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rosemond Boohene, has received Dr. Audrey Lenhart, the Chief of the Entomology Branch of the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

During the meeting, Prof. Boohene discussed ways the University of Cape Coast (UCC) through the Department of Biomedical Sciences could collaborate with with CDC.

Prof. Boohene and Dr. Lenhart exchanged views over a number of issues of common interest and how dear internationalisation was at the heart of UCC.

The Dean of the School of Allied Sciences, Prof. Desmond Omane Acheampong, on his part, announced that the CDC was ready to collaborate with the School in the areas of Faculty and student exchange programmes,but he was quick to add that the sticking point was funds.

He dropped the hint that the School was developing a certificate programme to build the capacities of Ghanaians in the health sector.

Prior to the meeting, Dr. Lenchat spoke on a topic: " Optimizing Control Strategies for Insecticide Resistance Mosquito Vectors of Arboviruses and Plasmodia" at a seminar organised by the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

The Director of the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), Prof Denis Aheto; the Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Prof.  Alexander Agyir-Yawson, as well as Dr. Ama Thomford and Dr. George Ghartey, both lecturers at the Department,  Mr. Alfred Ghartey, the Senior Assistant Registrar at the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, attended the meeting.
