Nutrition and Dietetics students embark on educational tour to Takoradi Flour Mill Ltd

Students of the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics of University of Cape Coast have paid an industrial visit to the Takoradi Flour Mill Limited (TFM) in the Western Region.

The visit was aimed at exposing the students to hands-on practical knowledge and experience on the production of the high quality wheat flour and related by-products of TFM.

The students toured the three mill plants of TFM and were taken through the production of wheat flour, including wheat clean, wheat condition, mill, sift, purification, fortification and packaging.

The industrial experience tour formed part of the week celebration of the Nutrition and Dietetics Students’ Association (NADSA).

The Manager of TFM, Mr. Nazeer Kundu kooli, while addressing the students,  expressed the excitement of hosting them and noted that the choice of TFM as their study tour was appropriate and a good one.

Presently, according to him, TFM operates a 24hour production line from its three mills with a total daily capacity of 1100 M/T on wheat.

"The company currently provides direct jobs to 180 employees and over 150 people working through third party service providers. Indirect jobs to wholesalers, retailers, transport operators, bakers and bread/pastry sellers as well as farmers are estimated at over 3000 people" Mr. Kundu kooli continued.

The Manager observed that TFM had contributed significantly to the Ghanaian economy through the payment of taxes to the Government of Ghana, created direct and indirect job opportunities, as well as supported the agriculture industry through the supply of wheat bran to animal feed producers and farmers, among others.

As a result, he noted that the visit by the students served as a springboard for his firm to continue to offer the best services possible in order to advance the nation.
