Indian High Commissioner to Ghana Graduates from UCC 

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Sugandh Rajaram, has been awarded a Master of Philosophy (Geography and Regional Planning) at the 5th Session of the 55th Congregation of University of Cape Coast (UCC). 

Mr. Rajaram, who has worked in the Indian Foreign Service for twenty three years (23) years,  specialised in geopolitics. 

In a post-graduation interview, he said he was proud to be an alumnus of UCC and expressed sincere gratitude to the management of the University. 

"UCC is the most prestigious institution in Africa. It is not only number one in Ghana and West Africa but also ranked fourth in Africa.  That shows the academic calibre of this institution… Geography is the core of geopolitics. I am practising international politics (diplomacy) and I want to back it with Geography" Mr.  Rajaram said when asked why he pursued the MPhil in Geography and Regional Planning. 

The Ambassador noted that his major interest was to bring diplomacy to the doorstep of the public. 

He promised to strengthen the academic relations between UCC and Indian universities and also deepen the Ghana-India relations. 

"I would like to commit myself to further strengthen the India-Ghana relationship in the areas of research and education” he added.  

Mr. Rajaram praised his lecturers and supervisors for their high level of professionalism during his study at the University of Cape Coast. 

About Mr. Sugandh Rajaram

Mr. Sugandh Rajaram entered into Indian Foreign Service in 2001. He began his diplomatic career at the Indian Mission in Moscow (2003-2006). Later, he served in the Indian Diplomatic Missions in Jakarta (2008-2011) and in New York (2011-2014). He also served at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi dealing with India’s relations with Sri Lanka (2006-2008) and Pakistan (20015-2016) and with External Publicity & Public Diplomacy (2016). Before taking over as High Commissioner of India to Ghana in January, 2020, he was the Consul General of India in Munich (2016-2019).

Mr. Sugandh Rajaram is an electronics engineer by education. Among foreign languages, he speaks Russian and also knows Bahasa Indonesia and German. He is married to Mrs. Pratibha Parkar, presently Ambassador of India to Angola, and the couple has a daughter.
