DCGS Holds Two-Day Strategic Session to Chart New Path

The Directorate of Consular and General Services (DCGS) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has successfully concluded a two-day non-residential strategic session aimed at repositioning the directorate for enhanced performance, innovation, and institutional renewal.

The session brought together management, sectional heads, and external experts in a collaborative setting designed to reflect, innovate, and realign departmental goals.

The session opened with a keynote by Mr. Isaac Adom Konadu, Director of Human Resource, who indicated that the training was to help participants achieve set targets and goals.

He emphasized the importance of bold thinking and strategic recalibration, adding that the workshop not merely satisfied an administrative responsibility, but was a step to achieving greatness in the University.

Mr. Konadu’s address, which centered on “Human Resource Process: Managing Contract Staff and Promotions,” highlighted persistent challenges confronting the directorate, including talent depletion, recruitment delays, and non-cooperation among staff. He said, “Be very nice to people but firm with your policies,” indicating to participants that this should serve as their guiding principle for effective people management.

The incoming Director of DCGS, Dr. Mary Owusu Obimpeh, emphasized her commitment to building a strong, dynamic, and responsive directorate.

She outlined her strategic vision focused on service innovation and digitization, staff training and development, service optimization, environmental sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and overall institutional transformation.

A core feature of the two-day programme was a series of presentations by all sectional heads, offering a platform to discuss departmental milestones, challenges, and forward-looking strategies. These presentations encouraged peer learning and fostered a spirit of accountability across the directorate.
