Management of University of Cape Coast has applauded the sports contingent of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Basic School for their sterling performances at the 2023 Basic School Sports Association (UBaSSA) Games held at the University of Ghana.

The pupils, who participated in the various track and field events, as well as soccer, competed with their counterparts from the basic schools of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Ghana (UG) and the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT).

A ground breaking ceremony has been performed for the construction of a three-storey Primary School Block at the Basic School Annex of University of Cape Coast.

The project, which comprises classrooms on the ground floor, first floor and second floor, will also come with a computer laboratory, kitchen, snack shop, and bookshop. Other facilities include washrooms, administration block, media centre, offices, science laboratory, a library and other ancillary facilities.

The Registrar of Free State University (FSU), South Africa, Mr. Nikile Ntsababa, has  paid a working visit to the University of Cape Coast to familiarise himself with the administrative system of UCC.

 At a meeting with the Registrar of UCC, Mr. Jeff Teye Onyame, Mr. Ntsababa stated that the visit was to follow up on the implementation of an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UCC and FSU in Education with the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Fresh students of University of Cape Coast pursuing various undergraduate and post graduate courses at the College of Distance Education (CoDE) have been cautioned to commit themselves to achieve academic excellence and be well disciplined in order to sustain the legacy of the Institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, gave the advice at a matriculation ceremony which saw a total of 8, 475 fresh students take the oath of matriculation for the 2022/23 Academic Year.

A Senior Citizen, Mr. Yaw Opoku Asiama, has raised alarm over the increasing spate at which young people are engaging in illegal mining (popularly called galamsey) to the detriment of agriculture.

He expressed dismay over the urge by the youth to indulge in illegal mining instead of farming where more hands are needed. He said many individuals engaged in extensive commercial farming were far advanced in age and physically weak hence, the youth should be more interested in that field.

Students of the Confucius Institute, University of Cape Coast, put up an exceptional display at the 22^nd Chinese Bridge Competition held at the University of Ghana, Accra leading to the receipt of various awards.

The students showcased their Chinese language skills and understanding of the Chinese culture through speeches, singing, dancing and some cultural performances.

The Centre for African and International Studies of University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received two sets of desktop computers to enhance its work.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Mrs. Rosemond Boohene, who presented the computers, mentioned that the Centre had earlier informed her of their plight which was the need for computers to augment their official activities.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Cape Coast is seeking to stimulate significant positive change in the attitude of student nurses and midwives towards time management through targeted activities.

To that end, the School, through the Department of Adult Health, has organised a workshop to inculcate proper time management in students and prevail upon them to discard the mentality of ‘Ghana Man Time’ (Ghanaians’ own time) before they transition into the world of work.
