Mr. John Kpodo has been sworn in as the new Students Representative Council President (SRC) to take over from Mr. Tony Henry Arthur, who headed the Council during the 2017/18 academic year.

Mr. Kpodo, a level 300 student reading B.ED Science, polled 3,574 of the vote to beat Mr. Kinglsey Sarpong Akowuah, a second year law student, who is challenging the outcome of the elections through the laid down procedures of the University.

The Ad-Hoc Committee for Staff Audit in the UCC Basic Schools has presented its report to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George K. T. Oduro.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee, Dr. Dickson Hippolyt Angbing, thanked management of the University for having confidence in the team to undertake such an important assignment. He was hopeful that management would study the report and critically examined the recommendations for implementation

The Executive Director of International Centre for Development and Decent Work (ICDD), University of Kassel, Prof. Dr. Christoph Scherrer, has said his University appreciates its collaboration with the University of Cape Coast.

Prof. Dr. Scherrer made this statement when he paid a courtesy call on the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George K. T. Oduro, in his office. It would be recalled that UCC and University of Kassel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2016 to run a joint summer PhD School. The 2018 edition of the Summer School is currently underway on campus.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George K. T. Oduro, has called on African governments to put premium on university education by investing more in the sub-sector to improve on the quality of delivery.

“if African governments want universities to deliver quality education and quality research, then they must prioritize university education and invest more in the sub-sector”, he noted. 

He said African governments must enact policies that will enhance funding opportunities for universities.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, has commended the Campus Broadcasting Association of Ghana (C-BAG) for playing a key role in the dissemination of factual and relevant information to the public.

Prof. Ghartey noted the various radio stations on campuses in tertiary institutions in the nation have served as important platform for academia to educate, sensitize and also share research findings on critical issues affecting society.

A Professor of Tourism at the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Prof. Francis Eric Amuquandoh, has recommended that leisure should be integrated into the development plans of Ghana to improve the quality of life of citizens.

According to him, leisure was one of the essential requirements for excellence, creativity, innovation and invention, and, therefore, urged government to provide the means to enable citizens to participate in it.

A team of faculty and Nursing students from Auburn University (AU) in the United States of America, has presented some health items valued at thousands of United States dollars to the Directorate of University Health Services(DUHS).

The items included drugs, bandages, gloves, sanitizers, breathing care kits, surgical scissors, first aid kits and assorted surgical instruments.

The team from AU was in Ghana for the maiden edition of Ghana Education and Health Care Programme which was jointly organised AU and UCC.
