UCC Police Station To Be Handed Over Soon -Says Dadzie

The State-of-the-Art UCC Police Station would be handed over to the University authorities by mid-September this year.

Speaking to the "Campus Update" the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Physical Development and Estate Management, Mr. Edward Dadzie said all the major construction works had been completed and what remained were the landscaping and a few pieces of furniture to be supplied.

Donation

The Minister of Railways, Harbours and Ports, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi has donated an amount of GH¢1000 to the School of Biological Sciences Students Association of Ghana (BIOSTAG).

The amount represents the first installment of a promised donation of GH¢5000 to the Association by the Minister.

It will be recalled that Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi was for sometime, a Professor of the then Department of Zoology, Dean of the former Faculty of Science and a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of this University.

 

UCC student ‘excels’ in “WHAT DO YOU KNOW”

As part of activities commemorating the memory of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi this year, a "what do you know" quiz contest was recently held at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Accra.

The University was ably represented by a final year student of the Department of Human Biology, School of Biological Sciences, Mr. Amandus Ankobil.

Mr. Ankobil placed second, while the first and third positions were taken by students from the University of Education, Winneba and the University of Ghana respectively.

 

Delegation Calls on Pro-vice Chancellor

A three-man delegation led by the President of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) USA Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster recently paid an official visit to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Yakubu to discuss issues of mutual concern at the Council Chamber, South Campus.

The visit by the UVI delegation was a follow-up to a five year MOU signed by Rev. Prof. Obeng and Dr. Rogster in October 1, 2007.

Appointment of New Registrar

The University Council has appointed the Deputy Registrar, Division of Academic Affairs, Mr. Isaac Ohene as the new Registrar of this University with effect from October 1, 2008.

In accordance with the University Law and Statutes, the Registrar is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the general administration of the University and also serves as secretary to the University Council and a member of committees including the Academic Board.

Mr. Ohene is the 11th Registrar of this University.

Profile

First Female Vice - Chancellor Appointed

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of this esteemed University. By this feat, she becomes the first female Vice-Chancellor in Ghana and the 14th Executive Head of this University.

In a letter dated July 14, 2008 and signed by the Chairman of Council, Dr. Charles Mensa, Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang has been appointed for a term of four years beginning October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2012.
