Master Edem klu receives BECE award

A former student of the University Junior High School, Master Edem Klu has received the 2008 President's Independence Day Award for excellence in the BECE.

The award package comprised a cash price of GH¢300.00, a dictionary/ encyclopaedia, and a four-year Government of Ghana Scholarship to pursue his Senior High School education at the Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast.

With his award, Master Klu has become the
ninth recipient of the prestigious President's Independence Day Award since its inception.

 

Remedial Science Programme Starts

The Remedial Science Programme, a collaborative programme organized annually under the auspices of the Schools of Biological/Physical Sciences and Agriculture, will commence on June 1, 2008.

MEDSHARE assists UCC Hospital

MedShare International, a US - based organization has donated assorted medical equipment and consumables to the University Hospital.
The Hospital Administrator, Mr. Moses Abnory told the ‘Campus Update' that the donation includes comfortable and multi-purpose wheel chairs, beds and other consumables. He said that the items were expected to further equip the Laboratory, the General Wards, Dental and X-ray Units of the hospital to enhance the delivery of health care services, especially to the poor and needy patients.

Prof. Awusabo-Asare to serve on UAPS

Prof. Kofi Awusabo-Asare of the Department of Geography and Tourism has been elected as Treasurer of the Union of African Population Studies (UAPS).

Prof. Awusabo-Asare was elected at the Fifth Conference for the UAPS held in Arusha, Tanzania, from December 10 - 14, 2007.

With this position, Prof. Awusabo-Asare also becomes a Member of the Governing Council of the Union and he would hold that position from January, 2008 to December, 2011.

 

New SRC/NUGS Executives Sworn into Office

A new SRC/NUGS Executives for the 2008/9 academic year have been sworn into office at a short ceremony held at the University Auditorium, North Campus.

The new SRC Executives are Mr. Richard Nii Armah, President; Ms. Anastasia Asante, Vice-President; Ms. Eva Mensah, Secretary; Mr. Samuel Kofi Asiamah, Treasurer; and Mr. Agyeman Boafo, General Sports Secretary. The Local NUGS Executives included Mr. Francis Appea, President; Mr. Sulemana Seidu, Secretary; and Mr. Raymond Obodai Morgan, as Treasurer.

Vice-chancellor Commissions Study Pavilions

The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Prof. E.A. Obeng has commissioned 12 study pavilions which the SRC has constructed at the cost of GH¢36,400.00 at the South and North Campuses of the University.

The study pavilions were intended to enhance learning on the part of students.
