A Professor of Chemistry Makes a Discovery

PROF. FRANCIS AQUAH OF U.C.C. MAKES NEW DISCOVERY: GHANA TO PRODUCE POTASSIUM PERMAGNATE.

Ghana can now produce potassium permanganate, a chemical used in the treatment of water. It is being produced  from waste cocoa pods and magnesse dioxide obtained from manganese ore which also abounds in Ghana.

MATRICULATION OF FRESH STUDENTS

A matriculation ceremony was held on Saturday 19th September 2009 to formally admit 4,252 students out of 11,730 qualified applicants. The matriculants were made up of 3829 undergraduate and 422 post-graduate students.

Call for UCC to help implement education reforms

The University of Cape Coast (UCC), has been urged to complement government's efforts in improving the quality of teacher training education as part of the education reforms by "monitoring the Colleges of Education to meet tertiary status".

Mr. Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, made the call when he inaugurated the re-constituted governing council for the UCC on Friday() at Cape Coast.

UCC student tops national professional examination

A final year student of the School of Business, Mr. Daniel Odei Okyere, has received an award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) for emerging as the over all best candidate in Financial Accounting Practice Part II and Management Information Part II in their recent professional examinations.

Sms receives donation

The Chief Medical Officer for Medical Services of GHAPOHA -Takoradi, Dr. Bernard Boateng-Duah, has donated an “Acland’s DVD Atlas of Human Anatomy” to the University’s School of Medical Sciences at a short ceremony held in the Council Chamber, South Campus.   Presenting the package, Dr. Boateng revealed how he had contemplated donating the item to either the University of Ghana or the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. He said he settled on UCC because he felt the University’s Medical School was relatively young and would therefore require such an assistance.
