Optometry Leisure Examination
This year's National Optometry Leisure Examination (OLE) was hosted at UCC on Saturday November 7, 2010. For the first time, the examination was done electronically. That is participants sat behind the PCs at the ICT centre of the university and wrote the first part of the examination which is made up of hundred multiple choice questions uploaded unto our Learning management platform. This platform is powered by the MOODLE Learning Management System (LMS) which was installed by staff of the Computer Centre since 2007.
The Moodle LMS makes it possible to shuffle questions and let users see the elapsed time for the examination is also equiped with the option for candidates to see their results right after the examination, hence there was no need for time announcers and the anxiety of knowing your score which is normally associated with examinations. Immediately after the examination, each participant saw his/her results. Both the examiners and participants were highly impressed about the system and expressed their desire to have it deployed campus -wide for all examinations involving multiple choice questions.
The system has been used for examination and other learning management purposes by Mr. John Edumadze (Co-ordinator, Computer Centre) and other lecturers since 2007.
