Phoenix Insurance Company Limited a leading insurance company in the country has donated an unspecified amount of money towards the celebration of the 50th anniversary of UCC at the Council Chamber, South Campus.
Presenting the cheque, the Head of Marketing, Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi, an alumnus of UCC, noted that the donation was in response to a request by the UCC@50 secretariat towards the construction of an ultra-modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to commemorate the anniversary celebration. He indicated that the company has plans to donate computers to support the ICT project.
Mr. Okyere Baafi, pointed out that his outfit had designed an insurance policy for students to provide a 24-hour cover against all accidental injury suffered in the course of, and arising out of employment and death. He expressed appreciation to authorities of UCC for offering the Company a place to operate on campus and gave the assurance that they would offer the University Community excellent services.
Receiving the cheque, the Chairman of the UCC@ 50 Committee, Prof. Kobina Yankson, stated that “ICT has become the backbone of education in the world therefore, as a University that trains teachers in the country, we intend to establish an ultra-modern ICT Centre to advance knowledge in the discipline.”
Prof. Yankson, expressed gratitude to the Company for the donation and called on the corporate institutions, alumni and individuals to emulate example of Phoenix Insurance Company Limited.
Present at the ceremony were members of the 50th Anniversary.
