New Internet Authentication for Staff and Students of UCC

STAFF AND STUDNTS’ INTERNET ACCESSS ACCOUNTS

As part of the upgrading of our bandwidth from 4Mbps to 45 Mbps, a new system of authentication has been installed and users are to adhere to the guidelines below:

NO PROXY SETTINGS
The current internet connectivity is through a Proxy Server therefore Proxy Settings were specified. But the new connectivity does not use proxy configuration, so you should remove the proxy settings from your browser in order to access the internet with the new system of authentication.

Instructions to Remove Proxy Settings in Internet Explorer
To remove proxy settings:

Step1: On the menu bar of your internet explorer browser, click on the Tools Menu Item and then on the drop down menu click on Internet Options.

Step 2: After clicking internet options the window below pops up. Click on connections tab and then followed by clicking on LAN settings tab.

Step 3: After clicking the LAN settings tab, the window below pops up. Click on the proxy server check box to de-select the proxy setting as shown below and click on OK button for new settings to take effect. You would observe that the proxy settings are grayed-out meaning they are inactive. This would enable you to browse with the new authentication system.

NB: If proxy settings in your browser are active you cannot browse with new UCC internet settings

Instructions to Remove Proxy Settings in Mozilla Firefox

To remove proxy:
Step1:
On the menu bar of your Mozilla Firefox browser, click on the Tools Menu Item and then on the drop down menu click on Options.

Step 2: After clicking Options, the window below pops up. Click on Advanced tab, followed by clicking Network tab and then the Settings tab

Step 3: Having clicked the settings tab, the window below pops up.
Click on the no proxy radio and then click OK button.
This would enable you to browse with the new Authentication System.

INTERNET ACCOUNT

Internet User Accounts have been created for Senior Members, Senior Staff and all Students, to be utilized with the existing LAN and Wi-Fi facilities at the offices, laboratories, bungalows on campus and halls of residence.

 

Notice to senior members and senior staff
 

Each staffs’ USERNAME is made up of the initial letter of your first name appended to his/her last name, while staff PASSWORD consists of his/her staff Number 

For example:

First name

Last name

Internet Username

Password (Staff Number)

Notice to students

Each student’s USERNAME is made up of his registration number without slashes (/) , while PASSWORD is the initial letter of your first name appended  to student’s last name.

CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET

Step 1After you are connected to the UCC network (via LAN or wireless), attempt to browse any URL eg. http://www.ucc.edu.gh.  The following login page would pop up. Enter your username and password and click on login button.

Step 2: Once logged in, click on ‘change password’ link to change the password  to your preferred password. YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO CHANGE THE DEFULT PASSWORD IN YOUR OWN INTREST.

Step 3: The window below will pop up when you click on the change password link. Click on ‘continue to this website’ link to complete the process.

Step 4: Fill out the fields in the window  to change your password to your preferred password and click on ‘update password button’.

You are ready to browse now. Open new tab and start browsing.
