The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has donated an amount of GH¢ 20,000 to the University to support its 50th anniversary celebrations at a short ceremony on campus.

Presenting the cheque, the Manager of the Cape Coast Zone, Mr. Martin Abofra, pointed out that UCC and GCB had enjoyed a symbiotic relationship over the years and that the donation was to sponsor the public lectures that would be organised by the University as part of the anniversary celebrations.

Mr. Abofra, assured the University that GCB would make additional donations to support the construction of the state of the art Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICT) to commemorate the 50th Anniversary Celebrations.

Receiving the cheque, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, expressed gratitude to GCB for the gesture adding that “Many individuals and partners have played critical roles in making UCC what it is today and GCB can be counted as one of them.” She also assured the bank that UCC would continue to live up to the expectation of GCB to enrich the already cordial relationship that exists between the two institutions.

The Chairman of the UCC@50 Secretariat, Prof. Kobina Yankson, also pledged to use the money for its intended purpose. Present at the function were members of the UCC@50 Committee.
