Ghana to establish one of the 15 African Maths & Science Institute Network (AMI-Net) at UCC

The government is reviewing the development of science policies in the country under a Science and Technology Consolidated Plan of Action (APA).

Furthermore, as a means of promoting the mathematical sciences in Africa, Ghana has been selected to establish one of the 15 African Mathematical Science Institute Network (AMI-Net) at the University of Cape Coast.

The Minister of education, Mr. Alex Tettey-Enyo, announced this when he addressed the 35th General Conference of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France.

Department Of Chemistry, UCC signs MOU with The Ministry Of Local Government And Rural Development

The Department of Chemistry of the University has signed an MOU with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to train staff of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate of the Ministry.

The MOU also deals with the upgrading of a sandwich diploma Programme in Water and Sanitation for staff of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate of the Ministry.

 

MOU signed between UCC and the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC)

The University has signed an MOU with the African Economic Research Consortium for the participation of the Department of Economics, UCC, in a collaborative Masters Programme in Economics.

UCC signs MOU with Hunan City University

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has signed an MOU with the Hunan City University of the People's Republic of China to establish a Confucius Institute at UCC. When established, the Institute will be the first in West Africa. The MOU is a sequel to an earlier one signed between the two institutions in June, 2008.

MOU signed between UCC And L’universite Paris Pantheon-Sorbonne

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Wednesday 25th March, 2009 between the University of Cape Coast and I'Universite Paris Pantheon-Sorbonne, France for collaboration in joint research projects, organisation of colloquia and seminars, publications, student exchange, teaching and research as well as staff exchange and development in the field of tourism and hospitality management.

UCC Signs MOU With University of Arizona

The University of Cape Coast has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Arizona, USA.

The MOU which was signed on Friday 5th June 2009 is to foster academic cooperation in research and education, between the two Universities.

 

Chinese Ambassador calls on Vice-Chancellor

The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Ghana, His Excellency (H. E.) Mr. Yu Wenzhe, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Friday, 3rd April 2009. The visit, the Ambassador pointed out, was to engender greater cooperation and collaborative efforts between tertiary institutions in China and Ghana.

Seminar on Ethical Research Held

The School of Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) in collaboration with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), Legon, has organised a seminar on the theme "Ethical Conduct Research in Dynamic World" at the University of Cape Coast Auditorium.

The seminar sought to justify the need to establish an IRB in the University of Cape Coast to help supervise standards to research. The seminar was held on Friday 3rd April, 2009.

 

UCC signs MOU with University of Limpopo

The University of Cape Coast has signed an MOU with the University of Limpopo, Limpopo Province, Republic of South Africa to establish academic linkages and educational collaboration for mutual interest.

The terms of the agreement which was signed on 29th June 2009 include academic, an educational exchange programme for qualified staff, especially in ICT, provision of internship opportunities for students, enhancing capacity for research and securing required external funding for joint projects.

 

Confucius Institute to be Established in UCC

The first Confucius Institute in West Africa is to be established in UCC after authorities of the University of Cape Coast signed an agreement with the Hunan City University (HCU) on 13th August 2009.

“The Right Constitution: A Restatement of the Case for Constitutional Reform” – by Prof. Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson

Prof. Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson, Barrister-at-Law, Solicitor of the Superior Court of Judicature and an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Cape Coast has advocated a wide range of reforms to the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. Prof. Bondzi-Simpson was delivering a Public Lecture on the topic "The Right Constitution: A Restatement of the Case for Constitutional Reform" on Thursday 12th March, 2009

“Ghana and Britain: Parallel Histories, Converging Futures”- by His Excellency (H.E.) Dr. Nicholas Westcott

At an occasional lecture on the topic "Ghana and Britain: Parallel Histories, Converging Futures" delivered on Tuesday 31st March 2009 at the University Auditorium, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency (H.E.) Dr. Nicholas Westcott drew several instances of areas of convergence and drew attention to what the two countries could learn from each other.

Oxford Street, Accra: Urbanisation, Social Ecologies and Street Life- Prof. Ato Quayson

Prof. Ato Quayson, FGA, Professor of English and Director, Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies, University of Toronto, Canada, has delivered a lecture on "Oxford Street, Accra: Urbanisation, Social Ecologies, and Street Life" at the University Auditorium as part of UCC Occasional Lecture Series.

A Professor of Chemistry Makes a Discovery

PROF. FRANCIS AQUAH OF U.C.C. MAKES NEW DISCOVERY: GHANA TO PRODUCE POTASSIUM PERMAGNATE.

Ghana can now produce potassium permanganate, a chemical used in the treatment of water. It is being produced  from waste cocoa pods and magnesse dioxide obtained from manganese ore which also abounds in Ghana.

Martriculation of Fresh Students

MATRICULATION OF FRESH STUDENTS

A matriculation ceremony was held on Saturday 19th September 2009 to formally admit 4,252 students out of 11,730 qualified applicants. The matriculants were made up of 3829 undergraduate and 422 post-graduate students.
