Service Personnel to be posted online

Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister for Education, Science and Sports has said that beginning from this year, national service personnel would be expected to check their postings online on the onset of the service period. The website address for the postings iswww.nssghana.org. Speaking at a "Meet the Press" in Accra, Papa Owusu-Ankomah said the National Service Scheme (NSS) introduced the on-line posting-checker system to ensure that registration and posting of prospective service personnel was made easier, faster, more accurate and more convenient.

Omanhene of Agona Traditional area donates 50-acre land to the University of Cape Coast.

The Omanhene of the Agona Traditional Area, Nana Okofo Katakyie Nyarko Eku X, has, on behalf of the Chiefs and people of the Traditional Area, donated a 50-acre parcel of land to the University of Cape Coast for the construction of a Study Centre under the University’s distance education programme. The donation was in fulfillment of a pledge made by the Omanhene in response to an earlier request by the Vice-Chancellor of the University during the Jubilee Awards Ceremony held by the Agona District Assembly.

President Thabo Mbeki to receive Honorary Doctrate Degree

The South African High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency R. S. Molekene recently paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng at his office. The discussion centered on the arrangements by the University to confer an honorary doctorate degree on His Excellency, President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa during the AU Summit to be held in Ghana later in the year. Another issue discussed was the strengthening of bilateral co-operation between UCC and the Universities in South Africa especially, in the area of distance education.

X-RAY machine to be installed at the University Hospital

A state-of-the-art X-ray machine for the University Hospital will soon be installed at the former Senior Common Room near the University Kindergarten. The availability of an x-ray machine will enable fresh students and newly-recruited staff to undergo medical examinations at the University Hospital.

A delegation from Wisconsin University, Whitewater, USA as part of their tour of Ghana recently, visited this University and had exploratory discussions, aimed at strengthening the already existing relationship between the two Universities.

New Headmistress for University Practice Secondary School

An induction ceremony has been held at the University Practice Secondary School for Mrs. J. Owusu-Ansah, the new Headmistress. Mrs. Owusu-Ansah took over from Mrs. Susana Lokko who has retired from the GES. Monsignor James R. Myers, a Catholic Chaplain of UCC preached a thought-provoking sermon at the function. He admonished the students to use their formative age to focus on their future career and its development.

The Dean of Arts Faculty, Professor Domwini Dabire Kuupole has been honoured alongside two other personalities by the French Government for academic excellence and his contributions towards the promotion of the French Language and Culture.
