President Thabo Mbeki to receive Honorary Doctrate Degree

The South African High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency R. S. Molekene recently paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng at his office. The discussion centered on the arrangements by the University to confer an honorary doctorate degree on His Excellency, President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa during the AU Summit to be held in Ghana later in the year. Another issue discussed was the strengthening of bilateral co-operation between UCC and the Universities in South Africa especially, in the area of distance education. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the High Commissioner for the visit and urged him not to hesitate to call on him anytime he was in region to discuss matters of mutual concern. It will be recalled that President Mbeki could not honour an earlier invitation to attend a special congregation in 2003 where he and the President of Ghana, is Excellency, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor were honoured.
