Medical And Dental Council Satisfied With UCC Medical School
The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has given the nod to authorities of this University to commence the training of medical doctors at the School of Medical Sciences (UCCSMS).This follows the Council’s satisfaction with the facilities and other structures put in place by the UCCSMS to start running the programme.
Facilities inspected by the team, led by the Chairman of the Council, Dr. K. O. Adadey, included laboratories at the Schools of Physical and Biological Sciences of the University, the University Library, and staff bungalows. The team also inspected facilities at the Central Regional Hospital which would initially serve as the School’s teaching hospital.
Speaking after a caucus meeting of the Council, Dr. Adadey said they were impressed with the facilities they had seen and the programme drawn up by the UCCSMS. He said the team was convinced that adequate preparations had been made for the take-off of the programme this academic year.
According to the Dean of the School, Professor H. S. Amonoo-Kuofi, the programme would start in September this year with not more than 45 students. He also indicated that the School had already started recruiting faculty for the programme, some of whom had already reported with others due to report within months.
The inspection team included the Registrar of the Council, Dr. E. K. Atikpui, Brig. Gen. T. M. Ayettey, Professor S. B. Naaider, Professor A. L. Lawson, and Professor Tsiri Agbenyega, all members of the Council. Also present during the inspection was the Dean of the School of Physical Sciences, Professor S. Y. Mensah.
