2007/2008 UCC Fresh Students Matriculated

The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Prof. E. A. Obeng has admonished freshmen and women to eschew all vices and pursue the academic goal they have been enjoined to undertake during their stay on campus.

Rev. Prof. Obeng said this during a matriculation ceremony held for 4,233 students admitted to pursue various programmes in the University for the 2007/2008 academic year. With this ceremony, the students have been accepted into the privileges, rights and responsibilities in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that out of the total number admitted, 3,898 were undergraduates (regular), 252 graduates, and 83 Organisational Development students. He also indicated that the total number of undergraduates admitted constituted 1,214 (31.1%) females and 2,684 (68.9%) males.

The Vice-Chancellor said that though it had always been the policy of the University to increase female admissions each year, this year’s female admissions reduced because “the performance of most of them was below expectation.”

Rev. Prof. Obeng who described the matriculants as “Jubilee Students,” enumerated the various opportunities available to them and advised the freshmen and women to use them wisely. He also appealed to students who aspired to be key players in national affairs to make hard work their hallmark.

Rev. Prof. Obeng also disclosed that this year alone, 115 students had been expelled, 47 students in the first year, 55 in the second, and 13 in the third year for non-performance. He therefore cautioned matriculants to take their studies seriously.

The ceremony was also attended by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Yakubu; the Registrar, Mr. S. Kofi Ohene, and Members of Convocation.
