Fourth batch life planning skills students graduate

The Counselling Services Centre, in collaboration with the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has graduated its fourth batch of students trained in the Young and Wise Life Skills programme for the year 2008.

A total of 150 graduands were presented with certificates at a graduation ceremony held in the auditorium of the University.

The Dean of Students, Prof. A. A. Addo-Quaye, who chaired the function on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the graduands for the successful completion of their programme. He urged them to impart the knowledge and skills acquired to help change and make the society better.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Director of the Centre, Dr. Frederick Ocansey said that the programme is a product of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Centre (representing UCC) and the PPAG which resulted in UCC becoming a Franchise Holder in the programme. He noted that since the inception of the programme in 2004, three batches of students had graduated.

The Director assured the PPAG that the Centre would continue to train more people in the ideals of the programme to realize the objective of injecting behavior change communicators into the society. He urged the graduates to use their acquired knowledge and skills to affect positively their homes, churches, workplaces and villages.

He also commended the PPAG for its support and encouragement which had made the programme successful.

The Special Guest of Honour, Dr. Ikechukwu Peter Nwadinigwe, who is a Visiting Lecturer at the Centre, said that the graduates were "an opportune group" because peer modeling all over the world had been tested to be an effective tool for change among the youth. He therefore, implored each of them "to affect more than five people in their societies with their newly-acquired capacity".
