A one-day eLearning Pre-Conference has been organized for staff and students of the University Community in the Academic Board Chamber. The event is a prelude to the third International Conference on ICT for Development Education and Training to be held in Accra from May 28 - 30, 2008.
The Co-ordinator of ICT in Education Programmes of the Ministry of Education Science and Sports (MOESS), Rev. Emmanuel Kingsley Dadebo said in a speech that the purpose of the Conference was to "make positive impact" on all universities, regional and rural centres, and to create the awareness of eLearning for those who will not be able to attend the Conference.
Rev. Dadebo said that the Conference would, among other things, make Ghana the "platform for the promotion of eLearning capacity building, bring calibre expertise and knowledge, mobilize donor support, as well as expose Ghanaian ICT professionals to the international community."
The Registrar of this University, Mr. S. Kofi Ohene gave an overview on UCC's strides made in eLearning for the past five years. He said that presently, UCC had put in place a modest ICT infrastructure to aid both students and staff.
The Pre-Conference which formed part of a series of Lectures to be held prior to the main Conference, was being organized by the MOESS in conjunction with the University of Cape Coast, GIMPA, the University of Ghana; the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST); the University for Development Studies and the Sunyani Polytechnic.
