Closure Of Casely Hayford Hall
From the Office of the Registrar.
CLOSURE OF CASELY HAYFORD HALL.
The Executive Committee of the Academic Board at an emergency meeting held on April 1, 2008, received reports on events in the University in relation to Casely Hayford Hall Week Celebration. The Executive Committee decided to close down the Casely Hayford Hall with immediate effect for the rest of the Second Semester of the 2007/2008 academic year for the following reasons:
- To restore law and order to the Hall following students’ general violent behaviour including the throwing of stones, use of petrol bombs, destruction of property, issuing of threats to the Hall Administration and other senior officials of the University, blockage of some campus roads, indecent exposure and refusal to allow the Hall Master to enter the Hall. The students had earlier spread human excreta in front of the Hall Master’s office.
- Members of the Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC) of the Hall had reported to the University Administration that they could no longer control students of the Hall who had been demonstrating the whole day in violation of the University’s regulations on Demonstrations, Rallies, Assemblies and Processions (DRAP).
- To safeguard life and property in the Casely Hayford Hall in particular and the University campus in general.
All resident students of Casely Hayford Hall are required to vacate the Hall by noon on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. Any student or group of students who will indulge in any further acts of lawlessness in Casely Hayford Hall or any part of the University Campus will be dealt with in accordance with rules and regulations of the University. It would be recalled that the University Administration issued an earlier statement cancelling the remaining activities of the Casely Hayford Hall Week Celebration following clashes between them and their counterparts in Atlantic Hall. The cancellation of the Casely Hayford Hall Week Celebration still stands.
