Department of Soil Science

Introduction

The Department of Soil Science is one of the five academic departments of the School of Agriculture. The department offers basic soil science courses to support the general Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) and Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Extension) programmes. Apart from the above functions, the department carries out research on other environment-related issues and extends research results to farmers, and MOFA field staff. It also collaborates with many organizations, including Soil Research Institute, Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Soil Science society of Ghana and some NGOs.

Mission Statement

In line with the University’s Strategic Plan, the department seeks to promote teaching, research and outreach programmes that will position the department as a unit of excellence in the country and elsewhere. Particularly, the department undertakes research and consultancy services in soil/land use and environmental science for contemporary development strategies in the Central and Western Regions of Ghana.
