Introduction:
The Department of Biochemistry is among the newly created departments of the School of Biological Sciences and is in its third year. The importance of Biochemistry as an "all round" professional discipline cannot be overemphasized. The Department aims at producing graduates who will be employable to teach at the Secondary and Tertiary levels of education, in research institutions, in the clinical environment, and in industry. Curricula has thus been developed with this objectives in mind. The Department will also continue to assist other department of life sciences in the University, as well as the School of Medical Sciences in the training of their graduates as may be required.
Rational & Objectives:

1. in teaching at the secondary and tertiary levels, in research institutions, in the clinical environment, and
2. in industry – pharmaceutical, brewing and other beverage, food processing, etc. The curriculum has thus been developed with this target in mind.
3. The department will also continue to assist other departments of life sciences in the university in the training of their graduates as may be required. Employment prospects of graduands: Our curriculum caters for Food, Industrial and Clinical Biochemistry. Students who graduate from the program have a lot of employment avenues available in the industries - eg. in the pharmaceutical, brewing and other beverage industries including food processing. Other areas include the Clinical - which include the hospitals, the clinical research institutes like Noguchi Memorial Research Institute, the Biomedical Industries and Academia. We hope to retain our best and most brilliant products in our department for teaching and sustainability of the programme.
Admission Requirements Entry Requirements for admission of students:
(a) SSS passes in three (3) Core subjects - Mathematics, English and Integrated Science.
(b) SSS passes in three (3) Elective subjects - Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics with grades not lower than D in Biology and Chemistry. 1. Other entry conditions will be as stated by the School of Biological Sciences and the Faculty of Science of the University.
