Professor Paa Kobina Turkson, the Dean of the School of Agriculture was elected Fellow, Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences at the Academy’s meeting in July 2011. With this Professor Turkson joins other Fellows in UCC who are the Vice Chancellor, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, Prof S Y Yeboah-Mensah, former Dean of School of Physical Sciences and current co-ordinator of LAFOC and Prof P K Buah-Bassuah, Dean of Physical Sciences.
The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in November 1959. One of the objectives is to promote the study, the extension and the dissemination of knowledge in all the Arts and Sciences. The dissemination of knowledge is done mainly through public lectures such as the annual Lectures in the Humanities and the Sciences, J.B. Danquah Memorial Lectures, Founder's Week Lectures etc.
Fellows include Ghanaians who have distinguished themselves in the areas of industry, technology and invention; the civil service, banking and accountancy, engineering, including architecture and geodesy; the judiciary, indigenous culture, education and health, pastoral work and related duties of the clergy; and the fine arts.
