The grade of Fellow of the International Society for Optical Engineers in USA was conferred on Professor Paul Kingsley Buah-Bassuah in 2009 in recognition of his distinguished and valuable contributions to the field of optics and photonics.
With this award, Prof. Buah-Bassuah has become the 600th fellow member of 5000 regular members of this society in the world. Among the recognised areas of his contributions are optics in industry, agriculture, holography, medicine and general application of Lasers.
The award ceremony took place at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) Trieste, Italy, at the Winter College of Optics and Energy (February 2010) where he was presented with a certificate by the immediate past president, Prof. Yzuel of the society.
Prof. Buah-Bassuah has recently been able to strengthen research in environmental monitoring using optical techniques by setting up in the Physics Department and the Laser and Fibre Optics Centre (LAFOC), an optical equipment to serve as climate station in the West African Region.
This activity in the University of Cape Coast, is the first of its kind in the sub-region. Interested parties in this project will be the Institute of Atmospheric Science and Climate, ISAC, Bologna, Italy, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, ICTP, Trieste, Italy and the Tema Oil Refinery, TOR, Tema.
